As the quality of this album is nowhere near the standards of modern recordings, it is a piece of work that will be appreciated as a part of history in the Rhyme Skeme legacy by true fans. It is efforts like Godz of the Microphone that helped to facilitate the vision of the group that would later evolve into Rhyme Skeme Productions. This is why the group has elected to at least post information about this record on the internet. Back in the year 1999 having your own CD's pressed was cutting edge, also representing Rhyme Skeme's correspondence in relation to changes over time in the industry. From the start it was always about the product, the artform and the family.
The milestone debut to CD in December 1999 was released during most of Rhyme Skeme members senior year of high school, back in the days for real. This was the first Rhyme Skeme album to be dropped with the absence of DoobE as he went to explore the world and go militant by joining the Navy. Twist and others decided to continue the Rhyme Skeme tradition and continue to drop albums in honor of "the General" as Doob was given the title . Extremely rare, the Rhyme Skeme only pressed 200 copies of the original master.
The enitre album was recorded on a Tascam 4-track cassette recorder, an Alesis SR-16 drum machine, a CAD dynamic microphone, a black Fender Stratocaster and a Yamaha DJX keyboard. Recorded at Twist Blade Studios (Twist's bedroom) then put onto CD at Amphion Studios in Rockville. Godz Of The Microphone was a hit in it's time and in it's own right. Well-respected for it's lyrics and guitar work, the album expresses the youthful and humorous side of the Rhyme Skeme mc's. Steve Nyce, Nate Flare, Poison (now Avatar) & Ollie Twist all contribute in making use of a lyrical comedy and fun side of making music but still somehow remain amazingly deep and compelling on other tracks.This makes the album a very interesting listen with an entertaining vibe to it.
It must be taken into consideration that this CD was one of the first Rhyme Skeme albums ever! Like many other Rhyme Skeme projects, Godz is a classic. You can hear the sonic struggle in every track as the Rhyme Skeme took their first steps towards developing an image and creating an identity. This is where it all began, back to the beginning.
